American History, Western Adventure, Romantic Steam! GREAT!

A friend of mine who is an airline pilot heard about this book at a party. He got the NOOK version, read it, and when he and I connected for a drink spent most of the time raving about it, and told me I HAD to read it. I generally don't even pick up a romance, and am not an avid devotee of westerns, though I have read a few like Lonesome Dove and Centennial and liked them, particularly Centennial for it's wonderful historical reference.

I was hesitant, but this buddy is macho all the way, former military fighter pilot, football star, and a big hulk of a guy. I bought the paperback.

All I can say is that it may be one of the best books of any class I have read. This novel made me remember why I am proud to be an American, got the juices flowing with well crafted love scenes that are skillfully integrated as important parts of the characters and the story, kept me on edge with action and foreshadow, and gave me a real feel for what it was like to be headed toward the frontier way back when with all sorts of very interesting historical details from weaponry, dress, and travel to intriguing European attitude and background of the day. The descriptive scenes of various locations, landscapes, and even rooms literally created rich images in my mind. I felt I was right there watching the chapters unfold trying to warn the characters of danger, cheering them on on their journeys, or feeling the heat of their passion.

I am converted and addicted! I am buying a number to give to friends, and one for my girl friend. Bring on the next book!

Threads West is a gem!

After reading a few chapters of Threads West, you'll discover a "favorite new author." Once you've read the book, you'll agree this saga will be considered one of the great literary works of our time!

This author writes in full technicolor-a true artist with nouns and verbs, painting a story with a pen. incredibly gifted. His style of writing captures a reader's attention and won't let go! It stimulates the physical senses so we can feel, taste, smell, hear and see vivid pictures of the characters and setting which he so meticulously describes. Characters that are interesting and diverse with complex lives become artfully merged with one another to create this really remarkable and unforgettable story.

And yes, I do believe I'm beginning to display signs of mild obsessive behavior for this author's work and the Threads West book series! So please Reid, have some mercy on us who are now unsuccessfully fumbling through other books searching for that magical place you've taken us to, and get the second book to the printer-pronto!

I finished it......loved it!

I finished it (Threads West).......loved it!  I can hardly wait for Feb and book 2.  I loaned mine to Sandy so she could read it too :)

I'm so sad for Sarah.  The characters are so real and vivid.  I already feel like I'm just reading the journal of real people and people I know.
Good job, Sir!

Threads West Review

The last time I fell madly in love with a Western historical saga, the title was Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry; it won a Pulitzer in 1986. The splendor and adventure of Threads West, An American Saga: Novel One, has now surpassed my long-ago love affair with McMurtry's Western saga. Reid L. Rosenthal, cowboy and rancher, has written a novel that spirited me away to the 1850s-1860s era and provided me with gripping hours of authentic Western history, action, drama, heartfelt romance and something extra special and seldom seen in literature of thiscaliber: well-written, sizzling sensuality.

What separates a good novel from a great one? I close a good novel and feel satisfied. When I close a great novel, like this one, I feel sad that there are no more pages to read. From the first time each character appears in the book to the last time they fade from the pages, I was immersed in the personal stories of the heroes, theheroines, the bad guys, the powerful, the vulnerable, and the brave. I cared about their lives and loves, strengths and weaknesses, and their strife and successes. As they head for their compelling shared and undiscovered destinies, their paths unfurl like a Western sunrise in this new saga of the American West.

The Threads West series opens with a bang and closes with a promise of more excitement to come. The story of these enduring characters is destined to stamp its imprint on the spirit and heritageof readers' hearts.

The writing is incredible. I'll leave you with this small taste from Reid L. Rosenthal's pen: "Dawn on the day of departure was a brilliant palette of indigo in retreat to the west and blossoming fire orange tothe east. The Mississippi had a slight chop from the morning wind, the surface ripples reflecting the burgeoning day in a shimmer of color."

Five stars are not enough. One book is not enough. Let there be more Threads West. Soon! -- Eve Paludan, author of The Romance Writer's Pink Pages, Letters from David, and (pending) The Man Who Fell from the Sky

"The Allure of The West......"

The allure of the west brought many people out there, but their success was greatly varied. "Threads West: An American Saga" is the first in Reid Lance Rosenthal's series about a four generations of Americans as they looked westward and the travels they made to claim their own bit of prosperity and life, forming the American spirit and the will to succeed. With plenty of intriguing characters, "Threads West" is a novel well worth reading for those with a love for the old west.

“Can’t get enough!”

“I’m generally a non-fiction guy. In fact I haven’t read fiction in the last 25 years – other than Rosenthal’s Threads West. My only problem with his writing is that I can’t get enough of it. It’s not just fiction, but historical facts through the eyes of intriguing and diverse characters whose personalities reach and grab your gut, and I appreciate that! It’s a great read – guys, gals, young, old! My only complaint is that even a short wait for the next in the series is just too long.”

~ Randy Ganther, Author (Maximum Success™ and Little Book For Huge Success™), St Paul Minnesota

.....A journey of gathering suspense.....

"Diverse characters interwoven with highly visual prose flow into a journey of gathering suspense.  One senses the tightening thread that binds them will unravel with both delicious and devastating results.  Rosenthal delivers!"

Speaking Gig At Los Alamos Middle School

I had the great privilege to address about one hundred and fifty great kids and teachers of the Los Alamos middle school in January. The message of the universal energies of the land, romance, the American spirit, and self-reliance formed the core of the presentation. We talked about the undeniable fact that we are all from elsewhere but are bound by those chunks of “soul food.” Fun stories brought laughter, applause, great interaction and over half an hour of terrific questions. Those kids definitely got the concepts! It was a total delight. Thanks to Peggy Durbin of Ottowi Station Bookstore and Museum, for setting up the event and the “Los Mos” school system for hosting it. Los Mos rocks!

We are so pleased that Reid enjoyed speaking with the students at the Los Alamos, NM, Middle School on January 28. Speaking for nearly two hours to a rapt audience of about 100 seventh and eighth graders, Reid discussed self-expression and the creative process, self-reliance ("If you need a hand, look at the end of your arm"), and the universal energies of the land and romance. The students may not have known it then, but they were also getting a free writing workshop. The students' questions to Reid were thoughtful and full of insight. He was unfailingly respectful of and interested in the kids. He and I were especially pleased when several students remained after the talk to discuss their own writing with him.

The signing the evening of January 28 was a delight. As I told Reid, our customers prefer to talk the authors' ears off, and that seemed to suit him perfectly. Several of the students from the morning's talk came by for books. Of course, we always have some shy customers who call a couple minutes before the signing is scheduled to end and who ask in a fraught whisper, "Is he still there? Will you have him inscribe a book to Richard?"
A good customer to the store came in this morning and wanted to know whetherThreads West would be a good selection for her book club. I told her it would be perfect.

Thank you for your support. We look forward to seeing Reid again.
Sincerely,
Peggy Durbin

An Amazing American saga

At last we have an American writer who's gifts go beyond perfectly blending fictional characters into true past events. With an amazing talent Mr. Reid Rosenthal carries you into breath taking panoramas of the hills and mountains of Colorado and Montana. Not without flirting , he will transport you all over Europe , where the decadence, high fashion, crystal perfume bottles and hearts are broken!

From ardent love, betrayal, disappointment, fears to wild hopes and restlessness, all your senses are guaranteed to work overtimes.

This is the first volume of a much needed well balanced novel. It has all the potential to make a believer out of you. After craving for so long for a sexy, but not cheap, intelligent and well poised but not sordid novel, I'm a believer...

Each word in this book is worth million pictures, suspended on a wall of a breezy sea wind, women's perfumes fading away on a locomotive smoke, warm sweat of wild horses pushing away the dry heat and dust of a late summer day when pine needles can be sniffed miles away.

Exuberant, sexy, informative, this book let me crave for more

A wonderful romantic adventure back in time......

Started the book one cozy morning and didn't stop til I reached the end..
I was captivated by the characters and the imagines that they brought to my head...so now the book sits on my nightstand and will certainly reread it several times before the next arrives...

How Does This #1 Bestselling Romance Writer Bring Back Character Traits of the Old West?

Way before America’s industrial revolution, when times were rotten and a better future seemed

uncertain, people were tough.

And they persevered because they didn’t wait for everything around them to go right... they

relied on their own ingenuity and each other.

This can-do attitude is typified by the universal energies of the land, romance, the American Spirit and mystique of the Old West.

Has our reliance on 21st century high-tech solutions quelled our desire to forge new paths of greatness for ourselves? Not by a long shot, says fourth generation land and cattle owner Reid Lance Rosenthal

If anything, a sour economy, environmental strife and politics that don’t work have kindled a nationwide reemergence of this classic American essence, he says. Have Rosenthal on-air to inspire your audience with tales of the American West— as seen through his cowboy heart—while revealing:

• Six reasons why the West still matters.

• The values of the Old West—five traits that can

save America.

• How a macho cowboy uses Western Romance to

convey the American message.

CREDENTIALS: THREADS WEST: An American Saga,

winner of 7 national awards, is the #1 bestselling debut novel

from author/rancher Reid Lance Rosenthal, the first book

of an 8-novel series that reminds us of the American Spirit

through a tale of romance, adventure, and western history.
